As part of its mission to educate, connect, and support a local and regenerative food system in San Diego and Baja California, Berry Good Food presents its 10th Future Thought Leaders panel in an award-winning series of expert discussions on topics of sustainability. “The Magic of Mushrooms: Revolutionizing the Future of Food, Farming and Medicine” will be hosted outdoors at Coastal Roots Farm in Encinitas, CA, on Sunday, October 24, 2pm-4pm.

The impact that mushrooms have on health and wellness has been a recent cutting-edge topic in media, including a 60 Minutes segment, Michael Pollan’s book “How to Change Your Mind,” and the breakthrough film “Fantastic Fungi.” Mushrooms play a crucial role in our natural ecosystem, they have been used medicinally by indigenous cultures for centuries, their nutritional value and hearty fiber make them an excellent meat substitute for chefs, and the mainstream medical community is evaluating psilocybin benefits in combating PTSD, anxiety, addiction, and other conditions.

Confirmed panelists at this time include Matthew Alvarado, spiritual healer; Ivo Fedak, owner of Mindful Mushrooms; Jan Hall, CEO of M2 Ingredients (Om Mushroom Superfood); Dr. Mark Kalina, Perlman Clinic; Dr. Gordon Saxe, UCSD Center for Integrative Nutrition; Danielle Stevenson, environmental scientist and applied mycologist; Davin Waite, co-owner and chef at The Plot and Wrench & Rodent Seabasstropub; and Michelle Ciccarelli Lerach, panel moderator and founder of Berry Good Food.

The afternoon will begin at 2pm with hosted light cuisine from The Plot and Maya Moon Collective with the panel discussion to follow from 2:30pm-4pm.
