The major storm in San Diego on January 22nd created a significant flooding event and impacted many farms in San Diego County, especially our vulnerable small-scale farmers in the Tijuana River estuary. Flooding has rendered their preparations for spring planting useless. Once the fields come in contact with sewage, the farmers are not allowed to plant crops for human consumption for at least 120 days. This means they will not be able to count on any income for at least their first harvest and possibly longer. To add insult to injury, most of the crops these small farmers raise go to our most food-insecure consumers in the community.

Berry Good Food is organizing a snap campaign to raise money for these farmers to distribute small grants to those most deeply affected.  Propagate Investment, led by BGF Board member John McCarthy, will match donations up to $10,000 during this effort.

100% of your donations will go toward these small farm grants.

We hope to raise up to $50,000 by mid-February and have farmers selected and grants distributed by March.
