Provino, the winemaker’s association of Baja, is hosting a three-day event June 7-9, 2018.

On June 7th there will be workshops and classes for children in local schools on sustainability, focusing on water and soil. There are three events scheduled for adults: a visit to a cattle ranch near La Mission using innovative permaculture methods for water retention and soil amendment, a visit to a winery in the valley with a novel water catchment system, and a native plant walk.

On June 8th at Santo Tomas in the Guadalupe Valley Provino will hold its second annual sustainability conference with four invited speakers giving individual talks followed by a panel discussion. The Ecological Corridor breakout room will have stands featuring organizations, individuals and businesses involved in sustainability.

The Berry Good Food Foundation, one of the sponsors of the conference, will have a booth there to promote cross-border initiatives, including its latest campaign to fund school gardens in San Diego and Baja.

The evening of June 8th Chef Enrique Olvera of Pujol and Cosme, Diego Hernandez of Corazon de Tierra, and Drew Deckman of Deckman’s will be preparing a 6-course wine-pairing dinner at Corazon de Tierra. The theme of the dinner is biodiversity.

On June 9th Vinedos en Flor is a family event celebrating local producers and the earth. There are 63 wineries and seven chefs participating, with tractor rides, kite flying, pétanque, art and other events for the children. Anyone under the age of 18 can attend for free.  All proceeds of this event go to the Albergue San Vincent, a shelter for migrants in Ensenada.
